Skillet Pork Chops with Tomatoes and Rice

A tasty skillet pork chop recipe with rice.

Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes


  • 4 to 6 shoulder pork chops
  • 2 tablespoons chopped onions
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced in rings
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes with juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • hot cooked rice


Brown pork chops in hot oil; drain off excess fat. Add onion, green pepper, and tomatoes. Season with salt and pepper. Cover and cook over low heat until chops are tender, about 1 hour. Remove chops and arrange on a warm platter with hot cooked rice or pilaf in the center, if desired.
Serves 4 to 6.

Tasty Pork Chops and Rice: A keeper!, Member TxVee

I've made this recipe twice, now, but I hesitated to write this very first review because I didn't follow the recipe exactly! First of all, I never cook with bell pepper, because it disagrees with my stomach. I like it a lot, and probably would have given the recipe 5 stars had I included the pretty, tasty peppers. I hope you will use them. The first time I made this recipe, I was out of diced tomatoes! I live too far out in the country to go to the store in an emergency, so I had to substitute with what I had: chopped tomatoes with green chiles, the mild variety. For some reason, the cans these are sold in are smaller, so I made up the difference with a little tomato/vegetable juice. I seasosned the chops before I browned them, then I cooked the onions until they were soft in the hot oil before adding the tomatoes. I served it with plain white rice. It was so good, my husband asked me to make it again. The second time, again leaving out the green peppers, I used the diced tomatoes the recipe calls for. Without either bell peppers or green chiles, it wasn't as good. So, if you can make it as written, I believe you'll have a 5 star supper! I'm going to make it again, using the green chili tomatoes and try the suggestion of serving it with pilaf. I wish I could include a picture, but I had decided not to write the review. But I want y'all to try this anyway! It's so good.
