Sweet and Sour Spareribs

In this sweet and sour spareribs recipe, the ribs are baked then sauce is added.

Ingredients:

  • 3 to 4 pounds meaty pork spareribs
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup chopped green bell pepper
  • 1 rib celery, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 cups pineapple tidbits(one can, about 16 ounces, or two 8-ounce cans, reserve liquid)
  • 1/4 cup cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce

Preparation:

Cut ribs into serving-size pieces; place in a large shallow roasting pan. Bake at 350° for about 2 hours, turning frequently and pouring off excess fat several times. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat; sauté onion, green pepper, and celery for about 5 minutes, or until tender.Blend in cornstarch. Add remaining ingredients and cook, stirring, until thickened. Pour over ribs and bake for 45 minutes longer. Recipe for spareribs serves 4.
