Chocolate Pound Cake
This chocolate pound cake is baked in a tube pan. It's an excellent cake for a special occasion. Add a chocolate glaze or leave it plain and dust with powdered sugar.

Prep Time: 12 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour, 20 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour, 32 minutes


  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3 cups granulated sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 cup milk


Beat butter and shortening; add sugar and mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition; beat in vanilla. Combine dry ingredients in a separate bowl then add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Bake chocolate pound cake in a greased 10-inch tube pan at 325° for 80 minutes, or until chocolate pound cake bounces back when touched lightly in the center with finger.

I have had trouble for years making a moist chocolate pound but OMG!! this was great. I made two, the first just as the recipie called for and the second one I added chocolate pudding and chocolate chips and good lord they both were great. I am so glad I found this recipie.
