Raisin Pudding

This pudding recipe goes back many years.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Preparation:

Combine brown sugar, water, and butter in a saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes. Pour into a buttered 2-quart casserole. Combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, raisins, milk, and vanilla; blend thoroughly. Pour over hot mixture in casserole. Bake raisin pudding for 25 to 30 minutes at 350°.

Don't think I did it right!, Member kayko2000

I've never had a raisin pudding, so I'm not sure what it should look like. After 30 mins, the doughy part is still floating on top with about 3/4"" of liquid below, bubbling away. How brown should the top crust be? Should there be a top crust? Any photos you could share? What should the final dish look like? And how is it served?
