Shirred Eggs

  • 4 teaspoons melted butter
  • 8 eggs
  • 8 tablespoons heavy cream
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese


Put about 1 teaspoon melted butter into 4 individual baking dishes. Break 2 eggs into each dish. Add 2 tablespoons of cream to each dish and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake in a preheated 350° oven for 10 to 15 minutes, sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cheese over each egg just a minute or two before done.
Shirred eggs serves 4.

Great Eggs, Member maggie2101

I decided to try shirred eggs after reading about them in a book. These are delicious and very easy to make. I cooked them a bit longer to avoid runny yolks. I served them with rye toast. Not something I would make everyday as they are very rich.
