This easy quick bread recipe is made with Grape-Nuts cereal and dates.

Cook Time: 1 hour, 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk, scalded
  • 1 cup Grape-Nuts cereal
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg, well beaten
  • 3 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 cup chopped dates

Preparation:

Pour hot milk over Grape-Nuts; cool. Sift flour, measure, then add baking powder, salt and sugar. Sift again.

To the Grape Nuts cereal mixture, add the beaten egg, melted butter, and chopped dates; blend well. Add dry ingredients, stirring just enough to moisten all ingredients. Turn into a greased and floured 9x5x3-inch loaf pan. Let stand for 20 minutes at room temperature, then bake at 350° for about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
