Sweet and sour sauce recipe with pineapple, vinegar, garlic, mustard powder, and ketchup and brown sugar.

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 small can pineapple juice (or juice from a 15-1/4 oz. can pineapple chunks, drained)
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/4 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (or less)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

Preparation:

Mix all together and cook over medium heat until thickened. May be prepared in microwave in microwave-safe bowl. Microwave about 4-1/2 minutes on high or until thick, stirring every minute.

From SDMOORE:
My family loves this sweet & sour recipe. It might be possible to adapt it by substituting cherry juice for part of the pineapple juice. We like it with chicken nuggets, or the meatballs from Sam's Club. When I make the meatballs, I open a can of pineapple chunks, drain the juice to make the sauce, and then add the chunks to the sauce after it thickens. It's really good served over rice.

Substitutions work too., Member kathleencorkett

I substituted according to what I had on hand in this recipe and added a couple things to bump up the depth of flavor. For the base: -spaghetti sauce instead of ketchup -one fresh pineapple cut into tidbit size pieces For the acids/sour: -vinegar from my dill pickles -juice from one lemon -juice from one orange For the sweet: -fresh raw honey For spices: -fresh ginger instead of dried ginger -1/2 of a finely chopped onion -fresh ground mustard seeds -fresh garlic I didn't measure, but kept the ratios from the original recipe in mind while throwing ingredients in the pot. Boiled the ingredients, mixed a couple Tbsp of corn starch into couple Tbsp cold water and slowly poured it into the mix while stirring for 1 minute. Voila! Beautiful thick tasty stir fry sauce over veggies galore and a bed of rice.
