This basic herb butter is wonderful on hot grilled steak, corn on the cob or other vegetables, and grilled or broiled fish. It's also a great way to use the summer's fresh herbs. I used a mixture of chives and parsley in this butter. The butter can easily be doubled or tripled for a big family meal.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Yield: Makes 4 Tablespoons


  • 4 tablespoons softened butter
  • dash salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons finely chopped fresh chives
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh parsley


Combine the butter, salt, pepper, chives, and parsley. Shape into a log and wrap in plastic wrap or waxed paper.

Refrigerate until chilled and firm, then slices as needed.

Grill steaks, corn on the cob, or fish until done as desired and serve with a thin slice of the herb butter.

Makes about 4 tablespoons of herb butter.
