Recipe for onion soup au gratin with sliced onions, bread, and cheese.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sliced onions
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 5 cups brown soup stock (any kind)
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 6 thick slices toasted French bread
- 3/4 cup grated cheese
Preparation:
Cook onions in oil and butter until soft and caramelized. Add
cornstarch, stirring well, stock, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, place
square of toast in each individual soup dish, ladle out the boiling soup
and sprinkle thickly with grated cheese.
