  • 2 cups raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 cups light brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup sour milk
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Just before serving, sprinkle with confectioners sugar.

A very easy and delicious recipe (and oh, how wonderful the house smelled while it was baking)! We made it for a party, and some of the guests put a little whipped cream on it, but most agreed that it didn't need anything to be as delicious as it was. Thank you, Diana, for another wonderful recipe! Happy Holidays, Carrie :>
