Excellent.....I made the stew on the spur of the moment & found it really easy. I browned the meat in oleo rather than butter. The combintion of seasoning was perfect. I didn't have potatoes or the pearl onions but it was good anyway. It made it's own gravy. I didn't quite cover teh meat with water though. My son gave it 10 stars.

I had very high expectations for this dish and even though the end result was acceptable (it was too watery and I tasted the beef not spices), I know exactly what I did wrong. I followed this recipe WORD for WORD. Never again. I had a feeling that I should have added more seasonings (1 tsp of garlic powder was NOT ENOUGH! I should have put Pepper and Sazon, and added a can of diced tomatoes not drained...etc.) and the directions were too short. I had too many questions. Should I drain the fat from the beef? Which ingredients are not necessary? How can you improvise? After the two hours simmering there was not a drop of water to be seen. I filled the pot with water again, WRONG. I should have slowly added water as I cooked the vegetables. My mom who is an excellent cook was proud of me for taking on such a challenging recipe for a beginner but advised not to be afraid to add seasoning, that makes the dish! I think this recipe is a good base but it desperately needs to be revised. I am still proud of myself! I felt like such a cook making something from scratch. :-)
