I doubled the recipe and it turned out FANTASTIC! I made a caramel-like sauce and also freshly whipped cream, and it was so good. Everyone raved. I did find out through research that there is no need to scald the milk....this comes from pre-pasteurization days I did heat it up a bit in the microwave so I wasn't putting cold milk in the slow cooker. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

We did this together, we love making dessert as a family. We used a little too much bread (my daughter didn't measure it, just tossed all the dried bread in, lol,) but other than that, it turned out delicious! An easy recipe that practically cooks itself with ingredients we almost always have on hand, this one's a winner! Living in high desert, we just air dry our bread, putting it together in a basket here and there when someone doesn't want what's left of the bread, in true pan perdu style.

I made this dish for my family's Thanksgiving dinner. The recipe didn't say what size of crock pot, I have a large one. Because of this I changed the cooking time slightly to 2 1/2 hrs on high. Then 4 hrs on low. This dinner was for 12 people, so I used one whole loaf of French bread, and doubled the rest of the ingredients. The recipe calls for the bread to be toasted. I don't like my toaster because it toasts the bread unevenly and usually burns on one side, so I cut the bread up into cubes, put it in a large metal bowl and put it in the oven on low until the bread was dried out, about 1 hr. The bread pudding turn out perfectly! It was fluffy, light, and there was no exess moisture in the bottom of the dish. Everyone comented on it. Even my husband liked it and he is not the pudding type of guy.
