Broccoli Salad
5 out of 5Delicicious - but very sweet!March 18, 2012

I chose this recipe because it had so many favorable reviews! I followed the advice of many others and reduced the sugar to 1/4c. I used Miracle Whip instead of mayo, so the sugar should have been reduced even more. I used pine nuts, craisins, red onion. Took this to a St Patty's Day party and everybody raved about it! Will definitely make again and gave out the recipe to several at the party. This is a keeper!

...but just a piece of advice for those who want to cut back on fat you can substitute the mayonaise with sour creme or even greek youghurt. The salad tastes just as goos and is much healthier. I have never added peas to this salad either.

Great recipe, although I adjusted it some, and only because everyone is cutting back and looking for healthy sides. I only made a half size version using broccoli rabe. I omited some of the bacon and only used 1/4 of the sugar. So use sugar to taste. I still had leftover dressing. I used a sweet Wala Wala onion and chopped it very fine so my family wasn't aware of the raw onion. The raw sunflower seeds gave it some extra crunch and it was an instant hit. I read the other reviews and know when I serve it with grilled foods it will be requested for sharing.
5 out of 5go with grapesFebruary 28, 2009

This is an excellent recipe. I prefer substituting 1C halved red or purple grapes instead of 1/2C raisins....it's just as sweet, but the grapes add a juicy fresh flavor and enhances the overall dish.
5 out of 5I make this all the time!January 30, 2009

This is a delicious and versatile recipe. I use nonfat mayo and veggie bacon bits and then add fruit, like pineapple or chopped apples to it. It's great and nobody knows how healthful it really is
5 out of 5Very Tasty and can be made aheadJanuary 03, 2009

My family really enjoyed this and I thought it was the best brocolli salad I've made. I used a mix of raisins and cranberries which gave it a nice color, too. I didn't add the sunflower seeds because we had small children at dinner. It really didn't matter. The flavors (especially the bacon and red onion) marinate so well. This is one we'll be having again. Note that you can make it ahead of time easily.

This is the best and easiest ""fancy"" salad to take to a pot luck or family meal. I have received raves for it and everyone asks for the recipe.

I have made this recipe several times for family and work activities. I leave the peas out too. EVERYONE loves it-so much so that they think somebody else must have made it for me!! haha
5 out of 5no peas pleaseSeptember 30, 2008

I have made this dish for years. Came from my great grandmother in Ireland. I don't care for peas so I've always used cranberries with the orange flavor. My kids love this dish. I usually cook my bacon and onion together and drain the fat. Kids tend to eat this if the onions are cooked too. I have three kids so I also cut up the stems very thin and add those to the mix. Good luck and happy cooking.

Great recipe and like most salad recipes, you can make changes. I grated a carrot and added it as well. Otherwise, I stayed with the recipe. Since we're doing a modified South Beach program, I didn't use sugar to sweeten the mayo but added several pkgs. of sweetner in its' place. First time I used craisins instead of raisins. It's all good!

Delicious. I used pine nuts instead of sesame seeds and omitted the peas. I made extra and only had two cups left after Easter. Everyone loved the dish. I think next time I will try fat-free mayo instead of the light mayo I used this time.

One of my favourite dishes at whole foods is ""Broccoli Delight"" and this is it's at home rival! I altered the recipe a little. I used Low Fat Mayo, Craisens (Dried Cranberries) and skipped the peas. I would highly recommend this salad to everyone - easy to make, good for you and tasty!

I made this recipe but omitted the peas to a baby shower at work for about 50 people. I doubled the recipe but apparently should have tripled it because it was gone before the line was done. Everybody wanted to recipe and loved it. i made the sauce the night before so that the sugar wasn't so gritty and it had a chance to disolve. It was wonderful

I made this today for the first time, a double batch and took it to a school potluck. It was devoured, in fact, some kids came back for seconds. I think the dressing was the selling point. I will make this again, and look for a slightly lower fat, lower sugar way to make the dressing.
