Very Delicious Cabbage RollsJanuary 28, 2012 By MariaFlanner
I've never made cabbage rolls, but had a craving for them. Found this recipe online--it was outstanding! My family (minus the finicky 14 year old) loved them. I didn't read the recipe correctly and put the water & cornstarch mix in with the tomato mix and baked...it turned out fine. Used Splenda for the sugar and salt free seasoning instead of the salt. I will make this again and make enough to freeze to take for lunches.

THE Absolute Best Cabbage Rolls EVER!!!February 26, 2011 By Sunshine3324
I have been craving cabbage rolls for a long time, but both my husband and son do not like cabbage and my husband doesn't like tomatoes. I wanted to find a cabbage roll recipe that would win even them over. I had a very basic recipe in my ancient cookbook, but it did not have much in the way of flavor, and even I wasn't crazy about it. So I researched on the internet and found this recipe and decided to try it. Well, all three of us -- even my husband and son who don't like cabbage -- LOVED this recipe! My son said it was the best he had ever eaten, and my husband was practically licking his plate clean. This is one of those recipes that you eat until you are uncomfortable, and are then frustrated because you are too full to eat more -- it is SO good! I'd give it 10 stars if I could!

Great RecipeAugust 15, 2010 By kschweit
I have made this recipe a couple of times. I usually make it and bake it as directed and then freeze it into individual lunch-sized portions. Works great. Since I freeze it, I normally skip the sauce thickening step.

    WonderfulMarch 17, 2010 By JeannieVQ
This is wonderfully flavorful meal. Very inexpensive and easy to make. I substituted regular vinegar for tarragon vinegar and it was a tasty alternative. Also I used fire roasted diced tomatoes which was a really good alt as well.My family yummed this up and asked for more. I loved this recipe. I will make it again tonight for St Patty's day.

    YummyOctober 06, 2009 By timholtwick
I thought this recipe was absolutely delightful as is. Used a 13X9X2 baking disk with a foil top, cooked to 150 degrees by internal thermometer. I also had added a bit of paprika and after we stuffed ourselves, thought maybe a ""hint"" of carroway or tarragon to the filling may have added some additional mystery to it. But, it stands firmly on its own! Yay! Tim

    Good basic recipeAugust 20, 2009 By Blurgle1
This is a very good basic recipe for cabbage rolls. I'd suggest that unless you're making them for someone with a touchy stomach that you add two teaspoons sweet Hungarian paprika to the filling (you can use hot paprika if you like spicy foods, but sweet paprika isn't spicy, just flavourful). I'd also not use milk in the filling if I were making them with meat - it makes them too soggy. Also keep in mind that a Ukrainian cook - and cabbage rolls are the most typical Ukrainian food around - would likely use whatever she had around the house instead of using specific items in the filling. In summer we often use shredded zucchini combined with finely chopped peppers and basil, cooked pot barley, garlic, paprika, an egg, and a pound or so of homemade Ukrainian farmer's cheese. The sauce would be tomato paste mixed with herbs and spices and thinned with the whey from the cheese-making. Four to six hours in the slow cooker and you have a nutritious and cheap meal (especially if you grow the vegetables) that doesn't heat up the kitchen.

A little sweet for my tasteApril 14, 2009 By hkj
Not bad. I'll work on the sauce a little and try to make the sauce more like I remember my Mom's to be. It was more like a chili sauce than this.

No toothpicks. Just simply roll and tuck in the sides. Toothpicks are very dangerous. Add the same amount of pork. No sugar to sweet.

    fancy cabbage rollsNovember 09, 2007 By galaxia99
This is my 1st try at making this dish. In total I got 18 leaves. I also used my reciepe for spagetti sauce and rice for the filling. It looks fantastic. I also hope my children like it. I'm getting tired of the same old thing. I made pumpin soup & pie last week. YUM !!

My little brother loved this, and so did my father, who were both picky about their food. In fact, I'm making this again tonight!

    Our residents loved it!October 15, 2007 By az_assisted_living
As the owner of two assisted living homes in Arizona, we are always on the lookout for new recipes to give our residents some variety. With their physical and mental ailments, sometimes the only bright spot in their day is a great meal. I made these cabbage rolls for today's meal, and they got rave reviews!!! Will definitely keep this recipe to make it again.
