    We liked it!August 22, 2010 By DocPK
I had everything going in the pan and realized I had forgotten the bell pepper! The sweetness also comes from the tomato paste and ketchup. Leave out the ketchup if you don't like the slightly sweet taste and see if that is more to your liking. I also added some salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. This ""spiced"" it up a bit. I don't like traditional red beans and rice, too bland. This was much better and I will make it again.

Not authentic, and not very goodFebruary 26, 2009 By schellter
Way too sweet and bland. Lacked any depth of flavor or spiciness.

Nothing like red beans and rice.November 16, 2008 By jdgjtr
It is hard to mess up red beans and rice. That being said, this recipe does. Authentic Red Beans and Rice doesn't have any hint of tomato at all. Nor does it have pimentos, Worcestershire sauce or or bacon. Not recommended at all.

Not authentic, but really goodAugust 06, 2008 By M.Booker
This is not authentic red beans and rice, but that being said it is a really good substitute when you don't have all day to cook. I used fresh veggies. I read one review that said the recipe was too sweet... this is definitely a result of cooking the veggies too long, they caramelize (especially if using yellow onion). So, if you make the recipe, as another person suggested, cut up all the veggies ahead of time and cook them until just done on low/medium heat then let them cook with the beans to soak up the sauces... and it will not be sweet. This is an excellent last minute meal, is inexpensive, and tastes great!

This recipe was very disappointing. It tasted more like sweet baked beans over rice to me but I wouldn't make THEM again, either. I also had the ingredients on hand but feel like I wasted them. Sorry not to be able to be more positive.

Not so quick red beans and riceAugust 22, 2007 By anniemated
Delicious and healthy. I read up on the ""miracle foods"" that are the best to eat. Red beans and rice was on the list so I found this recipe. To make it quicker, I would use canned beans and cut the veggies beforehand. Otherwise was quick and easy.
