    Good Flavor - Recipe's All WrongJanuary 27, 2011 By saiphm42
So, made these cookies and had the same experience as some other reviewers. The cookies spread out really far and were flat and kinda crunchy. We only cooked them for about 8 minutes on the second batch and they still lacked the correct thickness that you would expect from good chewy cookies. Okay, here's some ideas on how to fix this recipe. We tried this in our kitchen and it seemed to make a huge improvement: 1. CREAM THE BUTTER, EGGS, VANILLA, AND SUGAR!! This is basic good recipe technique and should never have been missed. 2. Add an additional 3/4 cup of flour to the recipe for a total of 3 cups of flour. If the first batch is still too flat for you, add a couple more tablespoons and try again. 3. Add about 2 Tbsp of instant coffee powder to the cookies. This brings out the chocolate flavor, but doesn't make these mocha cookies. This is an Ina Garten secret. 4. For an additional twist, consider using almond extract or mint extract in place of the vanilla. These adjustments should make your cookies much better than this recipe creates. So, to sum up, this recipe needs serious tweaking, but has major flavor potential. Happy Baking!! -Jess & Ashly

THE COOKIES ARE AMASING. they were quick and easy. The recipe wasnt hard to follow and they turned out to be hard on the outside with the soft chocolate taste in the middle. cheeeeeers fur that.

came out like cakes!September 18, 2007 By lisagoertz
I followed the recipe exactly and was really looking forward to some lovely chewy cookies. However the first batch I did just spead out and were really thin and hard. I did the next batch in baking cases in the hope of making them thicker but they just came out springy and the texture of cakes, which weren't entirely horrible, but not the cookies i was hoping for. Please can you tell me what i'm doing wrong and how I can make the cookies descried in the recipe!?

Soft, chewy goodnessSeptember 08, 2007 By chocaluver
Although the recipe was a little hard to understand and left quite a bit to common sense, the cookies came out excellent- they were crunchey on the outside, but soft, chewey, goodness on the inside. I would most definitely make these cookies again, and wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who wants to taste one of the best double-chocolate cookies ever!
