I RECENTLY PURCHASED A CROCKPOT AND STARTED COOKING WONDERFUL DISHES IN IT. I WAS LOOKING ON THE INTERNET TO DO SOMETHING MORE THAN JUST COOK BEEF STEW, SO I SAW THIS RECIPE AND SINCE I LOVE CURRY, THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A GREAT TASTY DISH. I FOLLOWED THE RECIPE WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CUTTING UP A FEW POTATOES, AND ADDING FRESH GARLIC. I COOKED THE STEW AS INSTRUCTED BUT WHEN I TASTED THE STEW, IT DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH SPICES, SALT, ETC. SO I ADDED MORE. IT STILL WAS NOT ENOUGH. THE MEAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS TENDER IT TASTED BLAND. THIS RECIPE JUST DIDN'T HAVE THE UMMF I LIKE IN CURRY DISHES.

I am a kitchen novice. I moved out of my parents with little cooking experience and prepared this for myself. The recipe was very easy to follow and tasted great, but I made some modifications to the recipe. The only ""small white onions"" I could find at my grocery store were cocktail onions, and they came in a 16 oz jar. I used 3/4 the jar and recommend using less. Perhaps 8 to 10 ounces. I used one medium white onion instead of two. I recommend two--I didn't realize they cook up in the skillet to a much smaller size than what they look initially. In addition to garlic powder, I added 1 tsp minced garlic to the batch when all was mixed in the crock pot. I recommend this.
