Beef Bourguignon with Red Wine
4 out of 5Very Very Good!June 07, 2011

Glad I read the reviews because it did need a cornstarch water solution to thicken it up. I pretty much followed recipe to a tee except I added 1 can of Golden Mushroom soup and I served with egg noodles. So GOOD! Will make again

Ever since I saw the movie Julie & Julia, I've been craving Beef Bourguignon. Thanks to the previous reviewees' suggestions, my first attempt was a hit. I definitely recommend the montreal steak seasoning in the flour, and added like 6 cloves of garlic. It was absolutely delicious. Added Jasmine Rice and Ceaser salad as sides, and it was a truly enjoyable meal.

After cooking, I tasted and it needed more garlic and some Worcestershire sauce to give it some pep. I also needed to thicken the liquid with some cornstarch mixed with water. After that, it was a good - venturing towards great - recipe.

The recipe is delicious, but a pound of bacon is too much for most of us. I changed the recipe to 1/3 of a pound of bacon, increased the mushrooms, added celery leaves [minced], put Montreal steak seasoning in the flouring bag, and increased the garlic. The sauce is very thin, and the last hour, I add cornstarch dissolved in water, and a generous tablespoon of a product called ""Better than Bouillion,"" beef flavor. My husband loves this hearty recipe, which only gets better and better as it cools in refrigerator!
