I have been making a version of this icing--with no salt--since I was about 7. I have never had a separation issue. I like the added salt.

I followed the directions to a tee, even sifted the conf. sugar. I used my handmixer and it looked great in the mixing bowl. When I poured it over my cooled bread, it started to seperate and clump. Moments later it seperated in the mixing bowl as well. The only thing that I can think was different was I used fat-free milk instead of 2% or whole milk. Would this make a difference? Overall it tasted fine, it just looked very unappealing. See below. Thankfully, I just made this bread for my family and not bringing it to an event!

I used this recipe for a contest at school, a cupcake war, if you will. I let my father taste my results, and i got an ""oh my god give me more"" look. to go with my groups cupcake theme, I used the juice from a jar of maraschino cherries. I put in enough to make it taste like cherry, and thickened the consistency with confectioners sugar, and used only three tablespoons of milk. Can't wait to use this again!

like the idea of the vanilla. JEWELL - you are correct. This is icing, think of it as more of a glaze, not frosting, and there is a big difference!

This icing mixes up in mere moments, and was perfect. Adjust the consistency to your own needs by adding more milk for a glaze or more sugar for a stiffer icing. For other user comments, if you taste sugar crystals, you have used regular sugar, not confectioner's (powdered) sugar. If you find it too runny, you wanted FROSTING, not icing., with egg whites, not butter. For an icing that dries hard, look for ROYAL icing. This icing stays soft, but is not runny. We enjoyed it on our cookies!

This recipe is horrid, just terrible. It is so liquidy and ugh, i have made this kind before and had the same results. I thought i might have a little hope for the cake that I baked for a very important event. Instead, the icing wrecked it, Do NOT try this recipe!

This is just the best! I don't know if the person above me (feb. 08) used regular crystal sugar instead of confectioners (powdered), but there really couldn't be any crystals in this mixture. Smooth and creamy and ooohlala....

I made this icing and thought it was wonderful. I drizzled it on my Amish Cinnamon Bread and it was really Yummy! Loved the vanilla in the recipe. I would definitely make this again and I would recommend it to others.
