Baked Custard Recipe
5 out of 5Good basic custardFebruary 16, 2012

This recipe makes a good, old-fashioned, custard. It won't taste like creme brulee or flan. It will taste like egg custard. It was exactly the recipe I was looking for to make the custard I enjoyed as a child. When checking it for doneness please note that it will look ""jiggley"" even when set-up.

I made it and contrary to previous comment It sets up fine. Maybe she didn't put the oven rack high enough. I flavored it with amorata and recomend that highly. I might try corn syrup instead of sugar also.

This recipe was simple and quick. The custard was smooth and delicious. I love it topped with a little maple syrup. I don't know how you could go wrong trying it!
1 out of 5Wouldn't set. Salty.April 23, 2010

I followed the instructions exactly. It wouldn't cook after 1.5 hours in the oven. I increased the temperature and cooked it another 1.5 hours. And it was still runny and like salty scrambled eggs. I'm an experienced cook. Something was off on this one.

This is an easy recipe for breakfast or dessert. This is the first time I have ever attempted to make custard, but I know what it should taste like because my Mom used to make it many, many years ago. The only thing I did differently was add 2 TBLS vanilla. It came out nice and smooth and tasted just like I remember custard should taste. It tasted good both hot and cold. If you follow the baking instructions as written, I don't think you will be disappointed.
