Yellow Layer Cake

It's my first time to bake a yellow layer cake and was a bit reluctant to try this recipe because of the bad reviews that some people posted. I followed the recipe by heart --- no short-cuts, a little hard work and the cake turned out great! I will definitely use this recipe again.
4 out of 5good recipe, but not for cupcakes!October 28, 2010

Well, my husband will have no trouble believing these weren't a mix :) They rose just fine, but then spread, so it looked like a pan of rolls when I brought it out of the oven. Perhaps there was a little too much batter for 12 cupcakes (I filled them to the top). But, I snuck a taste and they are good, just wide for cupcakes. I'm sure they'll look better when frosted. Next time I'll follow the rules & make a 2 layer cake, but if someone won't eat these because they look a little funny, fine by me, I'll have theirs :)

First time making a cake from scratch and I've had success from this sight before, so why not! And it turned aout FANTASTIC. My daughter loves it and kids are the best judge of all. The cake turned out smooth and moist not overly sweet. Will definitly go here again!

This was the worst recipe for yellow cake batter. I put the cake into 2 pans with one recipe and it didn't work. The recipe should've said double the recipe. I won't use this site for cake again.
4 out of 5with pineapple!August 15, 2009

This is a moist cake, a bit heavy but that is probably because I totally zoned out on the directions and threw all the ingredients in the bowl at once- silly me. It was still a good cake. I added an extra egg to make up for not beating the sugar and butter until fluffy- and you know the rest. . . . I used it as the base for a pineapple upside down cake and I was very pleased with the results.
5 out of 5Great Basic recipeJanuary 18, 2009

My cakes turned out beautifully with light crumb texture. I made 1 and 1/2 recipes for 3- 9 in. layers and tweeked it slightly- increased vanilla extract and used buttermilk instead of whole milk. This is a great basic birthday cake recipe and I will definitely use it again! BTW- I am a professional baker and I will say to those who gave this recipe a bad review because of bad results- It is NOT the recipe!

This is the first time I made a cake from scratch. I found it easy to follow. I used two dark pan's and at 25 min the bottom just started to get alittle burned. So next time I make it I will check it in 20 min instead. I would make this cake again.
4 out of 5Basic cake mixNovember 17, 2007

Easy, basic cake mix. You need to follow the directions. If you throw everything together without utilizing the basic cake creation technique (was a chef and grad from a hospitality program) then your cake will come out flat and hard.

I should have known better than to bake this after I saw the consistency of the batter, it was thick, like cookie dough. There wasnt enouh batter to fill 2 cake pans and my cakes came out flat and it didn't rise much either. Worst recipe ever.

This recipe is a very nice, basic recipe. I am going to college for baking, and I find this to be excellent for practice and it is very tasy. You can really do a lot with it too, it's super versatile. All in all this one is sticking in my book
